At the age of 29 my skin decided to have a random hormonal outbreak. I tried a lot of things (it wasn’t “bad” but for my usual standard of skincare, it was annoying) but I was finally introduced to LightStim during a facial. I couldn’t believe the instant improvement I saw after 10 minutes. It’s like magic. I went in twice that week to ask for more LightStim Treatment. It was then I learned they have mini at-home versions. Sign. Me. Up.
How LightStim Works
LightStim (for acne) uses blue and red light to reduce acne-causing bacteria, and soothes redness and inflammation. Think of the LightStim as a supplement to the nutrition or light your skin is missing. In my particular case, I had a hormonal reaction in an area that is common for women my age but there’s no cure. Basically it hits randomly during your most fertile years and then tends to go away. The main way to get rid of it is a oral tetracycline (that tends to clear it up, some may need to be on it long-term, others, like me, just take it a few weeks to clear it up).
LightStim is a non-invasive treatment (this sounds so formal I know) that you can do multiple times a day to help try to clear up any break outs or trouble spots. From my research I’ve learned it is SUPER effective on cystic acne, the worst to get rid of!
How to Use
The great thing about LightStim is you can’t really go wrong. I put it gently on my skin for 5-10 minutes on each side. It’s the perfect thing to do when watching TV in the evening before bed. If you want to take it up a notch, you can put on a mask and then apply your treatment. I LOVE doing this at Beauty Boost when I get a LightStim facial.
My Results
- Since using consistently over four months I’ve reduce any hormonal outbreaks.
- Reduced redness in my cheeks.
- Helped minimize fine lines around my smile wrinkles.
- I can feel a more firmed, smooth skin in the areas I’ve consistently used it in.
Is it gimmicky? Yes, but it’s less gimmicky than things that cost a LOT more. If you can’t afford this full LED face mask, these are a great alternative and also travel very well. I was able to take it with me on all my business trips.
Who is best for?
If you have a consistent hormonal outbreak or cystic acne, this is your tool! It’s not the cure-all, but you will immediately see a reduction in your acne and reduced redness.
Can you burn your skin?
I’ve been guilty of leaving it on my skin for up to 20 minutes a side and the worst thing that’s happened is I’ve been a little sensitive for a few minutes after.
Does it use batteries?
The only drawback is that it plugs into the wall so you will need to make sure you have an outlet. For me I just plug into my nightstand as the cord is actually pretty long.
You can also use the LightStim for Wrinkles (I have tried this and I CANNNNNNN see improvement.) It’s more expensive but is still considered very effective with consistent usage. No one has a magic bullet for fine lines (minus Botox) but this is a really great tool for at-home maintenance.
If you try it, let me know! I’d love to know your experience.

This sounds like a heaven-sent product! I’ve been having so much trouble with acne around my chin/jaw – probably a combo of maskne and hormones – and this sounds like the solution I’ve been searching for.
