The first time I saw a hockey fight I closed my eyes and then looked in shock at the people standing up encouraging a fight. I paid $14 to see a game of really heavy and muscular men stand on really thin ice and glide across said ice with a stick. I did NOT pay to see a boxing match on skates, although I have to admit that the second time I saw a fight I didn’t quittteeeee look away for as long.
Anyway, back to the point of what on earth do you wear to a hockey game? You cannot look like you are trying to hard, but you cannot simply ignore you instincts to still want to look decent. I repeat, do not wear anything more dressy than good jeans. You dress as simply as you can until it’s time for accessorizing. Have a bare-bones outfit and then accessorize smartly. A necklace and bright lipstick are the perfect touch to make you stand out from the crowd, but to not let you stand out TOO much from the crowd. Oh, and if you wear red lipstick, prepare for the jokes about bloody lips. Apparently it’s just par for the course at games. I’ve warned you.

I have never been to a hockey game but I am sure it's a ton of fun. I love the pop of reds in this outfit.

I've always wanted to go to a hockey game! I love to see people fight! π I hate football, this is one sport I forced myself to watch and like, and it just didn't happen, it fucking sucks!
The red here is a treat for the eyes, I love the bag!

I've never been to a hockey game and you looked casual and cute. So this was the perfect look.

Loving your stripes! Hockey is my least favorite sport, but it is much more watchable in person π

Yes, definitely wear jeans to a hockey game. You don't want to be one of those girls who tries to wear a jersey as a dress with 5 inch heels. Not good. This outfit on the other hand is very good! I love the way you glammed it up with accessories!
Inge Jane
I think this is a perfect outfit for a hockey game, or most sports actually!

You nailed this- casual + polished, and those booties look like they could get you out of the way if a fight broke out in the stands, no prob. π

Girl, isn't hockey addicting?! I'm a huge Chicago Blackhawks fan, thanks to my husband, and it's pretty much the only professional sport that I can sit through without being bored. I promise you'll figure out the lingo eventually. π

Great outfit, but I can't get past $14 for a hockey game! It's like paying for concert tickets where I am. (Vancouver) I don't watch it on TV when DH does, but I definitely do enjoy going to a game when I get a chance.

I used to go to my cousins hockey game and always struggled so much with what to wear. These games are in the summer which means it's well over 100 degrees outside, buuuuut it's soooo cold in the arena. It was a tough balance, I must say π

Ha! I'm going to a hockey game tonight! People in Nashville are a little crazy about the Preds right now, since they're actually good! Going to games is super fun, but I could really care less about the actual sport. It's probably my least favorite. I have to agree with you though- a simple outfit, that's still well put-together and shows off your style a bit, is perfect! Looking good.

I went to a bunch of hockey games in college- they were fun! Now you reminded me I need to go again

Hockey is probably the sport that bores me the most, but I can still understand the appeal of going to a live game. Love how you managed to glam up this simple outfit!

haha. I couldn't imagine myself enjoying hockey either UNTIL I went to a game, too! Isn't that funny? It's actually a really fun sport to see in person (vs. the TV) and the fans are SO loyal. =D

This made me laugh because I went to my first hockey game last year and it was such a crazy experience! And by crazy, I mean fun! I loved it. The drama is the best. I don't like sports other than supercross, but hockey? I can hang

I was pretty surprised when I wrnt to my first hockey game too. It's way more fun than I would have thought! I love the simplicity of this outfit, yet it's still chic!

The only hockey games I've ever been to were my little sisters – she played in high school. So no ice brawls, but the girls were definitely pretty aggressive.
Love those booties. they look so crazy soft and the color… so beautiful.

i LOVED going to see the local hockey team play when i was a kid! we went a ton and it was my favorite sporting event by far. if i went now, i would def grab a striped tee and jeans, and would hopefully a pair of slip-ons that don't exist in my closet yet.
those booties are precious.

I've never been to a hockey game, which I guess isn't surprising considering I've lived in the South for the vast majority of my life. It sounds fun though! Love those booties.

I haven't seen a fight yet! But I do love going to hockey games. I really wish I would have brought a blanket to my first game…because when in a room with a giant block of ice, it can get cold. Who knew? π

Your blog is so inspiring Alissa. Am always very delighted when I check your post.
As for the hockey, I didn't know what it was till I googled it! Lol. Well, if you like it now, that's the most important thing.
For me it's like "american football", I didn't really know abt it till I started dating an american (he keeps showing me videos on youtube and he's so excited about his formal university team LSU). In my country, Cameroon, soccer is "our" game. Lol.
