If you’re like me, you have no interest in watching holiday movies currently but did slightly entertain it previously.* Right now I am currently binging Survivor from the beginning, the opposite of seasonal TV. (I’m about 20 years too late on this show and I used to scoff at it but I am all-in currently) Thankfully a lot of other great things are out there, non-holiday, to watch. I hope you enjoy these suggestions! Oh and one more thing, might I suggest this chipotle chex mix to pair with any of these?
*Jessica, if you’re reading this, I hold watching Love, Actually very dear to my heart but it was literally only for you and the wonderful nostalgia of us watching it in college and Kansas City. (I also very much only watched it for the infamous dance scene. It’s not December until that GIF has been used) However, I am a strict holiday classics-only person. That is EVEN IF I decide to watch any holiday themed movies.
The Flight Attendant
Mood: Crime, bit of a thriller and like you have to justify paying for an HBO subscription worth it by binging this.
So this one I am going to be watching this weekend! I can’t stand The Big Bang Theory so I have sorely not seen Kaley Cuoco in enough things in my life. She plays an airline attendant who has a drinking problem she won’t admit to, somehow ends up involved in a murder and well I stopped reading after that because I was SOLD!
Broadcast News
Mood: Holly Hunter can do no wrong, a little rom-com and witty banter
This movie is one of the best-written scripts out there and is always held in high regard. It withstands the test of time, apart from technology, but is one of the funniest movies about the news industry. A romcom you saw coming but still are happy to watch. It’s endearing, familiar as you can guess how the story is going to end, but still engaging.
Diana: In Her Own Words
Mood: Nostalgia, appreciating strong women who have been reduced to their love life and not their greatest contributions to the world
My Grandmother was obsessed with Diana and had every book possible about her as well, the porcelain dolls with her wedding dress and so much more. I knew Diana because of my Grandmother but this year I started doing much more listening (Try Even The Rich for a great intro!) and reading about Diana’s life.
Her story will forever be impactful to women everywhere, help us raise strong women (and feminist-minded men) but also one of the most tragically heartbreaking stories in history. It wasn’t just her love-life she should be reduced to. She is so much more and this is a great watch. One of the greatest hearts and minds we have been graced with.
The Pack
Mood: Easy watching, judging a dog’s minor mistake that took years to train while you can’t even get your dog to always heel on command. Basically armchair quarterbacking dog training and physical competitions.
Honestly I don’t understand how Eleanor and I were not selected for this reality competition but they can always fix this flaw in season two. I don’t have a lot to say other than it’s fun to have on in the background and the bond the humans and dogs have will make you tear up.
It’s nothing groundbreaking but a feel-good series and something probably everyone in your family will love.
Don’t Trust the B- in Apartment 23
Mood: Comfort binge watching on the couch, make sure you have your favorite sweet and salty snack and cancel your non-existent plans.
If you don’t know about this show, well, no one did. It is so, so, so underrated and underappreciated. I didn’t discover it until I succumbed to Netflix tell me I would love it and resisting it. This show is quirky, smart, well-written, self-deprecating and was unfairly cancelled. Imagine writers having fun writing a show and when finding out they are getting cancelled, they go all-in on making it everything they want it to be.
Remember when I asked you to watch Crazy Ex-Girlfriend and you did and LOVED IT?! Yeah, if you liked that, you’ll love this series.
Have a great weekend and please continue to stay safe! Thank you for trying to help us stop the spread and trust me, I am exhausted too. Unfortunately it doesn’t make the danger to those vulnerable any less. I thank you for helping us, just sitting at home watching Netflix really is helping so for once, let’s do our duty and… be lazy? Weird times.

SO many good recs! I looooooved Don’t Trust the B when it was actually on. I’ve been rewatching Dawson’s Creek for like the third time because I simply can’t help myself – I’m just not into the holiday movies this year!
