First I just want to say how much I hate denim on denim. I hate dark blue on blue. Like seriously I can’t even handle how much I hate those two things. They remind me of my dad and farms, old men and other things that kind of have fashion all wrong. So when I opened up the August issue of Glamour I was so confused. MILA KUNIS HAD DENIM ON DENIM. Literally I was confused, how was this a legit style? I swore I would never try this style but then I remembered how if I am blogging I need to try new things, blah, blah, blah. So I did it.
The verdict? I seriously hate it. I had a hard time even wanting to do photos of this because I hated it so much. How is this supposed to look good? Should I have worn a different belt? It’s like old man meets awkward hipster style meets grandpa. (which apparently is different than old man in my mind) OK, so you get it, I hate it and will never wear it again. Just wanted to make sure you know how I feel. The bottom line is that Mila Kunis could wear a sack and make it look good, I need to accepted that I am Alissa Futhey, not Mila Kunis.
(I put this in here just so you know that not all my photos turn out great. Also I crack myself up)
And just so you can see how I have been rocking the hand on the hip pose all my life….literally this what I do all day, every single day.

I think the trick it to take a VERY dark denim and pair it with lighter? Hard to grasp, I know I still struggle, but I am warming up to it.

the denim on denim has definitely come on trend due to a "resurgence" of tomboy aesthetics… a tribute to essentially bygone archetypes, in a sense, the cowboy, the coal miner, the farmer. it is not for everyone, for sure, but is a classic and a bit daring look. it works when, as you did, the hues differ slightly, and it helps if there is a bit difference in texture as well. i think you look fabulous; my only suggestion would be, if comfortable, perhaps unbutton the next button on the blouse, to look a bit more carefree and casual. fun and feminine bracelets are a great accessory!

Denim on denim doesn't have to be scary! I think you shouldn't have paired the top with capris or a belt – let the look flow organically from top to bottom with no interruptions. I know it's infernal in Kansas right now but this look would be great with a black blazer or a scarf to break down the blue. I'd also recommend a pair of black heels/flats next time – something to spice up the outfit without competing with it.

Hehehehe! This outfit made me crack up with laughter. I don't like denim on denim either. One of my professors "rocked" that look last semester for class and it was so distracting! I kept thinking "WHY?!" instead of reading Uncle Tom's Cabin.

I don't think I can pull off denim on denim. You look cute, maybe the trick is add something of color in there, with either the belt, shoes, or jewelry? I'm loving your hilarious poses though!

Jeans and a Teacup
Haha…at least you gave it a shot! I don't think you look bad. I would have worn it with darker jeans. I actually am going to post a "Texas Tuxedo" outfit soon…and I look forward to your honest opinion on it! 🙂 I wasn't a huge fan at first either. But denim plus a chambray shirt is just so comfortable I can't resist!

I have not worn denim on denim and I don't think I am going to give it a try. I think it really depends on the darkness of the denim and the cuts. I love that you still gave it a try and shared it with your readers. Love the cute photo!! I'm having an end of summer giveaway on my blog, would love it if you could pass by and enter.
