In another 2020 plot twist: I own an orange dress? Yes, you read that right. And today I’m actually going to say you should also consider it. Now I’m not advocating for just ANY orange, but I’ve found that there is a specific orange that is almost universally flattering on any skin-tone. AND IT IS LONG-SLEEVED! I don’t know why people think we only need sleeveless dresses. WE NEED POCKETS AND SLEEVES.
Do I have a name for this flattering orange? Absolutely not. Do I know it when I see it? Yes. Could it be more annoying that I can’t name it? No. Anyway, today I’m showing you how to wear an orange dress from work to weekend. If you like this post, you should check out how to style a midi skirt and how to style an animal print dress.
I got this dress locally from Pink Saloon in Wichita, Kansas. Please remember to support local when you can! I appreciate you understanding I can’t link to it.
Orange Dress Picks
For Work
My solution is not always going to be pair this white jacket with every outfit. It HAS been my outfit solution since 2016 when I first got this. When I another solution as good as this white waffle moto jacket (similar), I will let you know. I love this outfit because it’s kind of a chameleon for seasons. Is it summer? Early fall? No one knows! But it works! 10/10 recommend a white waffle moto jacket and colorful summer sandals. Mine from Alice and Olivia were another shoe hit from 2020. I also wore them in my announcement photos with Eleanor.
Here it is for work (or a work event) without the jacket. Again, I am just as shocked as you are that I’m advocating for an orange dress, but here we are. 2020 is wild. If I was having work events or cocktail hours I would absolutely be seen in this multiple times.
Also in case you’re wondering, I got bit up by a TON of mosquitoes before these photos. The show must go on and I am not about to photoshop bites out on 30 photos.
For the Freakin’ Weekend
I have not had enough chances in my life to wear my Loeffler Randall shoes so the moment I saw this orange dress I knew I was going to make it a thing. I love how much the shoes dress up any outfit. Plus the crepe fabric detail of the shoes are a total show-stopper and compliment the subtle texture of the dress. Pair with the ex-wedding gift I got from my best friend (I pulled off the monogram of what my name would have been) that goes with pretty much anything.
I am really sad I didn’t get more reasons to carry this bag this summer. A straw bag for summer will always be in. (I don’t know why people act like it’s shocking straw or wicker bags are a shocking summer trend. IT IS EVERY SINGLE YEAR!) Anyway, that rant aside, I feel reallllllll cute in this outfit and will be wearing it into the fall. I hope to make up for all the lost carrying/wearing opportunities next summer.
To bring in the casual I made sure I wore a lower heel and my favorite necklace(s). I did take out the pearl earrings I was wearing in the above photos. Necklaces AND earrings always feel a bit much to me so I opt to only one have or the other. Totally a personally preference but I think it looks more put together.

I know this is about the dress (which looks amazing on you) but can we talk about all the sandals?!!! I think the first ones are my favorites, so much fun!
And I feel you with the bug bites. They looooove my legs and feet. It’s the worst.

I feel like most seasonal trends are the same every season! It’s so hilarious. But hey, we do find new variations on the trend every year. Keeps me buying lots of straw bags 😉
There was an orange dress at Banana Republic I was thinking of trying, but I don’t know if I can do it. Might just have to stay safe with rust for the time being.
