Denim Shorts for A Curvy Figure
This is the summer thick thighs and curvy figures get the denim shorts they need. I cannot express to you how much I hate, hate, hate shorts. Short dresses? Fine. Skorts? Always down for it. Tennis dresses? In my shopping cart. Shorts? Ugh. Denim shorts? Not today Satan. As much as I hate shorts, I know there are times when you just need them and they are easy. So with this background I give you the research I did on denim shorts for a curvy figure.
If You Like Soft Denim
These Madewell shorts are incredibly soft and have a great higher rise on them. However, and very importantly, they don’t suffocate your waist. Hard to explain but if you know, you know. Both Nordstrom and Madewell carry these if your size is out, check the other
- High Rise
- 4″ inseam
- 98% Cotton, 2% Elastane – aka, very, very soft and have give
- Can be worn cuffed and uncuffed
- I’ve found them to run true to size
I returned these only because the next pair I’m about to tell you about were the vibe I wanted. Had I not been ballin’ on a budget I would have kept these.
If You Like Mom Jeans
These are the jeans shorts that made me write this denim shorts for a curvy figure post. I love these shorts and I don’t like mom jeans. They are the perfect length to feel kind of hot girl summer but your butt isn’t hanging out. They are incredibly comfortable and come in many washes.
- For curvy-minded shorts, it’s impressive to have this many washes. White, black, dark and light.
- The denim in most styles is a hard denim, so there’s not a ton of stretch. Some washes are softer, but just note most will be stiffer.
- You can cuff them but they don’t come that way.
- I would size up when ordering. I really like having extra room in the leg and going up gave me the look I wanted.
If you like these shorts, order two pairs because the stock goes incredibly fast in them! I check every 3-4 days because I have a dark wash I want.
If You Want Short Shorts
I ordered these and I was sent the wrong size so I can’t fully review, but I can talk about first impressions. There is a reason these are a cult favorite. However, they also come at a price. A very specific, kind of high price for denim shorts. Here’s why they might be right for you:
- If you want buttery shorts that feel like someone else broke in for you, these are your girls.
- They are short, but not co-ed short.
- The sizing chart says they run large but if you want extra room in the thigh I would order your regular size.
- They hit your natural waist so they really do look good in all the right places.
These are the highest price out of my rankings. Let me know if you need them!
Honorable Mentions
The following are honorable mentions because I either couldn’t get them in time for this post or I have owned them. It’s a mix of denim and a few other materials because one cannot live on denim shorts alone.
Now that you know the best ones out there, it’s your turn to shop! May the odds be ever in your favor. Let me know if you’d add any to the list and I’ll keep this updated. Summer 2020 is the summer we all find a pair of denim shorts we love.
P.S. My friend Dana also did a great review!

Gurrrrrlllll. I hate shorts. Some of these might make me change my mind…next year. I’m suffering through the shorts I have and hoping for a swift end to summer. Thanks for testing them out for us all!

Oh thank goodness. Someone who actually understands how I want my shorts to fit. I actually have a couple of denim pairs (one from Old Navy, one from J.Crew) that work, but I would love to find non-denim, non-athletic shorts that I’m comfortable wearing out and around. Sometimes it’s just too darn hot for pants.

I’m glad you wrote this post!!! I have one pair of denim shorts that do not fit, it’s definitely time I find the perfect pair. Also, I’m just now clicking around Honestly Relatable – it all looks so good! Yay, you!!!
