Do you ever have an item you got randomly and didn’t expect it to be much and then it turns into the best item you own? That’s this Madewell dress I bought on Poshmark two years ago. I take it on every single business trip (RIP, I miss those, even the ones to Florida in the middle of the summer) I go on, no matter the season or occasion. I’m on the hunt for a back-up one so if you ever see it, let me know!
P.S. Be sure to check out my posts on how to style an orange dress, animal print skirt, midi skirts and leopard dress!
Make it Mean Business
Both of these (dress and blazer) items I got off Poshmark for a total steal and I love wearing them together. When I travel I typically pack this outfit every time in the fall/winter. These gray heels have been around the block a llloonnnggg time (think 3-4 years). I just add black tights to make it winter-ready.
Layer It
I have some terrible homeschool memories of this traumatic item called a jumper so I am trying to remember this is not that. But layering a cute top under this dress is a no-brainer and also just breathes a little life into both items for me.
Put a Belt On It
You guys know I love a good belt. I can’t help it, they just make things (typically) better. If I do a waist belt I keep my shoes very simple and don’t accessorize beyond the belt.
Just… Wear It?
There’s nothing wrong with just wearing your black sleeveless dress. Add a headband! Blue-light glasses! All your favorite things! Just wear it and enjoy it. You don’t have to always “style” something, you can just wear it how it’s supposed to be. You know you can easily throw on a denim jacket with anything like I did in my other series.
Add a Silk Scarf
This one makes me feel like a flight attendance and then I get a little homesick for being back on planes. So I guess if you want to feel like you’re traveling, tie on a silk scarf and you’re basically an American Airlines attendant. The one thing that makes me feel less like an attendant is wearing my nude Loubitons. Yes, I know, GASP! Actually wearing red bottom shoes instead of just keeping them in my closet.

I love these type of posts that show that you can shop your closet and mix and match items to create more looks and it helps me think about how much use I will get out of it before I buy something. I’ve found that dresses are harder to remix and I tend to prefer them over separates so this gives me lots of ideas. These are all super cute!

You never can go wrong with an LBD! Love all these styling tricks – the scarf one is so cute!

It’s such a great dress and you’ve shown it can be worn sooo many ways! I love when a “random” piece I buy becomes one of my most worn things! I have a few pieces that I didn’t expect to wear much but bought them anyway and they proved me wrong.
