We are continuing in our work wear series! Last week we talked about how to wear an animal print dress and today it’s midi skirts. I’ll admit that I am pretty picky about midi skirts but they are such a savior on event days where I have to do a lot of bending and lifting. Plus they are great for allllllll seasons. You also have to love that high waist that makes it super flattering too.
Note: My midi skirt doesn’t hit mid-calf. I don’t like that proportion on me. It shortens my legs a lllloootttt. You can often have a skirt altered to the length you prefer.
Midi Skirt Picks
Pair With a Bold Top and Heels
This top I actually got for a work event and I let it sit in my closet for like…. months before I thought about wearing it. You all went crazy for it on Instagram and suddenly it’s like the TOP of the summer for me. I normally don’t go for tone-on-tone but when I saw these heels and shirt were meant to be together. It’s SO comfortable and this combination makes me always feel pulled together.
Dress It Up – Date Night
You can’t see it, but this Veronica Beard silk top has the most beautiful tie in the back that really drapes. I wish it photographed better but it is what it is. I love that I can pull out my Jimmy Choos (I stretched them using this method) and feel very sexy in it but also mix high+low fashion.

Honestly? Just Have Fun
I own this top in green and pink and for some reason I just wear the pink more. Even though my favorite color is green, it’s just more striking with the skirt. I love that I can turn it into a pussy bow blouse. (I really have a thing for them.) It gives me a little Mad Men vibe even though there’s nothing distinctly Mad Men about it. (I should really be a writer with amazing descriptions like that.)
It’s In the Details
Okay, look, I really love this style because the details echo each other. The pearl shoe details go perfectly with the buttons on the sweater and they all work so well with the print of the skirt. I wouldn’t pair another pattern with the skirt, but that’s where texture and details come in! If you want to go bold, go for color or details that compliment the pattern and scale.
Make it Feminine
Okay can we talk about how if I could just like leave my apartment and go to work + happy hour I would be wearing this once a week? I love that it’s a black and white outfit and then I get to pink it up with those heels! Plus a full shoulder is ALWAYS going to bring me joy. You can absolutely have fun with prints. Prints don’t equal bold. You can absolutely pair something striking with a good print and be okay.

Love these looks, Alissa! A silk scarf would be a fun touch to the monochromatic looks too, if you’re into that. I also looove the color combo in the first pic. The jewel tones are great on you. Sending lots of good vibes from KC!
