This skirt is a testament that a good animal print is always going to be on trend. I got this from Banana Republic years ago and thankfully it’s managed fit as my body fluctuates. And honestly, even when clothes bore me, this skirt is still something that puts a smile on my face. My goal is to have more wardrobe items like this that go the distance. Today I’m going to show you how to wear an animal print skirt from work to weekend! If you enjoy this post, make sure you check out my other posts in the series, how to style a midi skirt and an animal print dress.
A quick note, more is more when it comes to an animal print skirt. You don’t have to print mix and go crazy with a statement piece like this to feel pulled together. Classic styling with always age well and if you want to jazz it up, try a statement shoe! Plus accessories, etc. help you feel like you’re edging it up if you want.

Go Classic with A Silk Shirt
I used to think I hated silk shirts until I realized I was buying satin. Happens to the best of us I’m sure. Or just me. Either way, I totally underestimated silk shirts until I bought some second-hand Equipment ones. Now I get excited when I see them pop up on Poshmark. For this outfit I like to pair a classic earring, shirt and neutral sandals to let the skirt do the talking. (I know you have seen those nude sandals for years on the blog but once again they are a great example of buying a quality item you love to wear for years to come.)
Pair with a Fun Top
I know! I just said less is more. It is, but since it’s a black shirt that reflects the skirt coloring, do it! I am very careful to make sure I don’t have too similar of textures that compete. (I cannot stand when textures are paired wrong.) If you go with a fun top, maybe minimize the accessorizing. I pulled out the greatest shoe purchase of summer 2020, these Sam Edelman sandals.
Introduce… Another Animal
So I KNOW this looks like a belt. But if you look close, it’s a snake belt. Yes, I paired two very different animals together. I like these subtle details that come together. The cognac pulls out some undertones of the skirt and makes it more than just a black and white outfit. What I really like is my waist being more defined through the belt, but I don’t have to add volume to get that.
P.S. In case you can’t tell, this particular outfit just makes me really happy.
Accessorize
Carefully accessorize, but do it! I love my necklaces that I tend to pair with everything. I love that it brings out the gold monogram of my Madwell zip-tote and my gold sandals. You can catch me in this outfit any spring or fall day. You can see my jean jacket picks here.
Formal It Up
I will wear a cape for every single one of these posts if that’s what it takes for you to like them. Because of the cut of this skirt, a traditional blazer makes me look wider. The cape instead grazes my hips and gives me a nice silhouette, much more to my liking. (This cape is old, but my currently favorite is this one. I own it in the blush. You can also find it in tweed.)

A good leopard print will always be in fashion! Glad you’ve found a piece that has really been able to carry you through the years. I have to say one of things I always find the MOST FRUSTRATING is when people think that silk and satin are interchangeable. One is a fiber, one is a weave that can literally be woven from any fiber, including silk, but quite commonly, polyester. I am that person who demanded a refund from a poshmark purchase when the seller listed a piece as being silk only for it to turn out to be poly-satin.
A big yes to silk blouses, but I hate how my deodorant destroys them. I can’t get the stains out no matter what google says, and two + years of going through a rotation of natural deos only left me (and my silk blouses) smelly.
